Description

These cheesy stuffed garlic herb pretzel bites are the perfect appetizer for any holiday gathering. Soft, savory, and filled with gooey cheese, they are sure to be a crowd-pleaser!


Ingredients

Scale

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F-115°F)

1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)

1 tbsp sugar

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp salt

½ cup baking soda

1 large egg, beaten

8 oz cream cheese, cubed

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling


Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

3. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.

5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

7. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

9. In a pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.

11. Punch down the dough and divide it into 24 equal pieces. Flatten each piece, place a cube of cream cheese and a tablespoon of mozzarella in the center, and fold the dough over to seal.

13. Boil each pretzel bite for about 30 seconds, then place them on the baking sheet.

15. Brush each pretzel bite with beaten egg and sprinkle with garlic powder, oregano, basil, and coarse sea salt.

17. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.


Notes

These pretzel bites can be made ahead of time and frozen. Just reheat them in the oven before serving.

 

For extra flavor, feel free to experiment with different types of cheese or herbs.
